Dr. Helen Barnet has investigated divorce for more than 30 years. In 1990, she published one of the first studies on adult divorce stress and adjustment in the Journal of Divorce and Remarriage. Over the years, she has researched the breakup of over 700 marriages, most of which were re-weds. Her self-help book— Divorcing Again? –is based on this ground breaking work on remarriage splits. As a psychologist, she has dealt with family transitions in various therapeutic settings as well as taught psychology at Connecticut College, Sacred Heart University, and the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Barnet has three psychology degree starting with a B.A. from Smith College. The other two include a M.A. (University of Vermont) and a Ph.D. (New School for Social Research). In addition, Helen has a Sixth Year School Psychology Certificate (Southern Connecticut University)
She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Florida Psychological Association (FPA), and Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA). Dr. Barnet is a past president of the Brevard-Indian River Chapter of FPA.
For fun, Dr. Barnet enjoys beach walking and aquatic activities such as swimming . To do these, she lives near the ocean year-round spending ten months in Vero Beach, Florida and the remaining two in Narragansett, RI. Her second favorite pastime is flower arranging—both traditional American designs and Ikebana. With her late husband Stephen, she has one son, Bradford. Bradford and his wife Bri have two sons, Cooper and Oliver.
Dr. Barnet provides data-driven help for those navigating divorce challenges, particularly for individuals facing a second divorce. Her work is packed with practical information and is written with a positive outlook aimed at restoration. It offers hope to the weary and enlightenment to those in the dark. Within the text, you’ll find valuable 'tip boxes,' including gems like the 'Blues buster list' and 'Up respect to up confidence.' While I highly recommend reading the entire book, at the very least, review the tip boxes for essential second divorce advice to guide you when you feel stuck. This resource will facilitate massive healing for you and your loved ones. Every therapist, pastor, social worker, and psychologist should consider this book an indispensable part of their library for providing remarriage support and guidance.
